paradox (all this)

God omnipotent, Lord of creation,

We stand amazed at Thy marvellous ways;

High priest, shepherd, author of salvation,

All this, and now in a manger He lays?

Giver of life, filler of needs,

Who can expend Thy treasures, so vast?

Clothes for the lilies, feeder of sparrows,

All this, and now in the desert You fast?

Hope for the hopeless, Sight for the blind,

Longsuffering mercy, whose depths we can’t see,

Father to of orphans, husband of widows,

All this, and now You die on a tree?

Fountain of life, raiser of dead,

For all who love Thee, Thou art an home,

Filling, overflowing, the bounds of creation,

All, and now, you lie cold in a tomb?

Son of a virgin, who slept in a manger,

Now great victor, o’er death’s mighty sting,

Humbled to death, yet Breaker of tombs,

All this, and now you come as a King!

  • Quote of the Day

“We love the old saints, missionaries, martyrs, and reformers. Our Luthers, Bunyans, Wesleys and Asburys, etc... We will write their biographies, reverence their memories, frame their epitaphs, and build their monuments. We will do anything except imitate them. We cherish the last drop of their blood, but watch carefully over the first drop of our own.”
