just so (hide not Thy face)

Just as the people of the Lord,
Were given peace and light,
When other peoples of the land,
Were three days in the night:
Just so, my soul was dark and bleak,
And given to despair,
But I hid beneath a blood-stained Cross,
And I found my Light there.

Just as the children of the Lord,
Were through blood granted life,
While all the others of the land,
Were made to feel Death’s knife:
So when my soul was miserable,
In sorrow, death, and pain,
Then on the doorpost of my soul,
Christ’s blood had left a stain.

Just like the people of the Lord,
When thirst and hunger’s thrall,
Then from the rock there flowed a stream,
Sufficient for them all:
So now, my soul is thirsty,
For depths of Jesus’ love,
And from that stream-oh, fountain sweet!-
I cannot get enough.

Just as the people of the Lord,
Did in the desert roam,
Until the great and glorious Cloud,
Was come to lead them home:
So when my soul is wandering,
And I remember sin,
Then Love’s pure Light burst shining forth,
And leads me back to Him.

Not like the people of the Lord,
Who ever turned away,
From that great, precious Holy One,
Who’d showed to them His face:
Lord, keep me ever fixing, keeping,
A steadfast gaze on Thee;
And keep me ever in Thy ways,
Hide not Thy face from me!

  • Quote of the Day

“We love the old saints, missionaries, martyrs, and reformers. Our Luthers, Bunyans, Wesleys and Asburys, etc... We will write their biographies, reverence their memories, frame their epitaphs, and build their monuments. We will do anything except imitate them. We cherish the last drop of their blood, but watch carefully over the first drop of our own.”
