a song of dedication

The following, though it is in the first person, was written in honour of the birth of my nephew, (pending name) Paul Leslie Riley IV. May he grow up to make the rest of us jealous by his Christ-likeness.

Oh to see the zeal of Christ, consuming all my frame,

Oh to share my Brother’s heart, For our Father’s blessed name

All earthly gain, twas His by right, He counted as but loss,

Twas passion for His Father’s fame, that led Him to the Cross.

Oh, to have the joy of Christ, direct my steps each day

Bread, pride, and power, though tempted hard,  all held o’er Him no sway,

So satisfied in finishing the work His Father gave,

This led Him to bear all our griefs: yea, even to the grave.

Oh, to have the love of Christ, to overflow my soul

To have such viewings of His grace, that unto Him the whole

Love for His Father,  Love for us: for which He came to save

Now may this love bind me as chains, to be His happy slave.

  • Quote of the Day

“We love the old saints, missionaries, martyrs, and reformers. Our Luthers, Bunyans, Wesleys and Asburys, etc... We will write their biographies, reverence their memories, frame their epitaphs, and build their monuments. We will do anything except imitate them. We cherish the last drop of their blood, but watch carefully over the first drop of our own.”
