“Lord we would see Jesus”: poem

“Lord, we would see Jesus,”

Let these words flow o’er our life,

To humble us in comfort,

To comfort in the strife,

Let fleshy longings vanish,

Let earthly passions flee,

“Lord we would see Jesus,”

Let our ruling passion be.

“Lord, we would see Jesus,”

What longing lips thus speak,

To look upon God in the flesh,

When as a man made weak,

Yet oh what higher wonders,

We now by faith may see,

“Lord, we would see Jesus,”

May our ruling passion be.

“Lord we would see Jesus,”

And at the viewing, love,

And see the Sun of Glory

Shine radiance from above.

Yea, more we see the Father,

Presented in the Son

And we see in Jesus,

The Holy Three in One.

“Lord, we would see Jesus,”

His suffering, and His cross,

Granting us redemption,

For He has paid the Cost.

And now in Love He owns me,

And now I long to see,

“Lord, I would see Jesus,”

My ruling passion be.

“Lord, we would see Jesus,”

And the Glory of His name:

thus to find my flaming,

To spread abroad His fame;

For this end we’re working,

We work, until we die,

That “We would see Jesus”

May be the whole world’s cry.

  • Quote of the Day

“We love the old saints, missionaries, martyrs, and reformers. Our Luthers, Bunyans, Wesleys and Asburys, etc... We will write their biographies, reverence their memories, frame their epitaphs, and build their monuments. We will do anything except imitate them. We cherish the last drop of their blood, but watch carefully over the first drop of our own.”
